Eksteen excellence sets up village victory

The 2023/2024 edition of the Titans Veterans league sizzled down to slightly sombre ending, as painful sentiments around the untimely passing of Laudium XI Star Super Hero Hassan Sattar still lingered heavily in the hearts of all 22 men who were participating in the final show down, the last expose, the grand finale of T30 competition. This dual will always be remembered with a slight sadness but in years to come it will transform into a celebration of a true cricketing warrior. Hassan had a highest score of 85 this season and was also inducted into the TVL Honours Board for his 5 wickets for 20 runs against Sinoville Sluggers.

Back to the cricket, Irene Retirement Villagers won the toss and elected to bat. With a point to prove, their openers got off to a good start and quickly progressed the score to 68 before they both fell in the 8th, Coetzer caught, Boshoff bowled. Peyper and Eksteen were looking rather dangerous scoring at 100 plus until the keeper caught Peyper, Eksteen’s excellence set up the villagers for an onslaught in the latter overs. The killer blow was applied by military man, Werner Pretorius who deposited 5 balls over the boundary and also decided to run at least 1 single. He ended up with 31 runs off 10 balls, 310 strike rate.

Morne Cilliers missed out with the bat but that wouldn’t mess up his day, he bowled a slippery spell of six spin overs, disloging 5 Laudium Stars for merely 26 runs. Moin Mirza showed resilience upfront for the Stars and top scored with 29 runs. The Stars only managed 123 runs. Irene Retirement Villagers, champions of the 2023/2024 TVL T30 Competiton.

Congratulations, this team keep stacking up the trophies.
